PASIGHAT: The Arunachal Pradesh Police have dismantled and destroyed over 80 illegally modified bike silencers as part of the ongoing ‘Road Safety Month 2025’ campaign in East Siang district’s Pasighat.

In a decisive effort to mitigate noise pollution and enhance road safety, authorities destroyed modified bike silencers, which cause noise pollution and disrupt the public, using a JCB machine at the Reserve Police Line (RPL) campus on Friday.

East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba said the seized modified silencers were found beyond the permissible decibel limits and were in violation of the traffic rules.

“Use of modified silencers is illegal and can result in fines and license suspension. It is directly related to the safety of children and senior citizens in particular and the general public as a whole on the road. We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding their safety,” he said.

He cautioned bikers against using modified silencers and advised them to refrain from altering the original silencers provided by the manufacturer. “Appropriate legal action will also be taken against the individuals/dealers involved in the manufacturing and sale of modified silencers,” the SP added.

Lamba pointed out that individuals frequently alter or replace their motorcycles’ original exhaust systems, causing the vehicles to emit noise levels that substantially exceed permissible decibel limits.
