ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP organized various programmes on Monday to observe the partition horror remembrance day here and to honour the people who lost their lives during that period. In the morning, the party organised a peaceful procession from Akash Deep market to the party's office led by its vice president, Nani Lajie, which was also joined by Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tamme Phassang and other party functionaries. Phassang and Lajie inaugurated the display of photographs of the 1947 partitions. Speaking on the occasion, Lajie said that the day is observed to commemorate the sufferings of people during the 1947 Partition of India. "It aims to remind Indians of the need to remove social divisions and disharmony and to further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony, and human empowerment," he said, adding that partition pains can never be forgotten.

Millions of people were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence, he said, adding that, in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of the people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021 announced to observe the day every year as "Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas". Phassang, in his address, said that the day enables the people to remember the sufferings and sacrifices of Indians during the partition in 1947. He added that the majority of Muslims did not favour the partitions. However, the decision was taken by a few people, and the wrong policy of the Congress caused several families to be displaced and many to lose their lives in the partition. He said that the BJP is the only party that can connect with every community for peace and harmony in the state and the country.

Local MLA Techi Kaso, in his address, remembered the victims whose lives were lost in the partition of the country along religious lines. "The partition of the country in 1947 is an inhuman chapter of Indian history that can never be forgotten. The violence and hatred claimed millions of lives and displaced innumerable people. The day will not only inspire us to eliminate discrimination, animosity, and ill-will, but it will also strengthen unity, social harmony, and human sensibilities, and it will inspire citizens to maintain peace and harmony in society," he added. Union Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju also participated in the programme virtually from New Delhi. Earlier, the party screened documentaries featuring the sufferings of the people who endured the 1947 partition.
