ITANAGAR: In a heartfelt tribute, the Wakro sisters, Ashapmai Dellang and Behelti Ama, dedicated their Carnatic music recital at Tezu in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh to the defence forces and the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives protecting India’s borders. The performance, part of their ongoing recital series since May 6, was organised at Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC), in collaboration with the NSS and NCC units of the college and the Bamboosa Library.
A large audience, including music lovers from Tezu and Roing, college students, and library volunteers, attended the one-hour recital. The programme featured kritis in Telugu and Tamil and concluded with a Sanskrit patriotic song.
The event was enriched by the dynamic interplay between violinist Gautham Narayan and mridangam artiste Vasudevan M M and the expressive vocal delivery of the sisters. Major Govind of 4 Madras Regiment, representing the commander of the 181 Mountain Brigade and the CO of 4 Madras, while addressing the gathering, lauded the performance as ‘amazing’ and commended the Wakro sisters for their contribution to popularising Carnatic music.
He also reassured the public amid ongoing border tensions, stating that the defence forces are fully committed to national security. He cautioned the audience against misinformation and urged them to rely on official news sources.
