TAWANG: On Sunday, Tawang saw a candlelight march that drew thousands of lamas, students, and local residents to show solidarity with the victims of the recent earthquake in Tibet. The earthquake on January 7 had killed at least 126 people and injured more than 100 others, and tremors were felt in Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of northern India.
The march was led by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, who said he wanted to pay tribute to the victims and spread awareness about the tragedy. Tsering, along with Shedling Tulku Thupten Tendar Rinpche, abbot of Galden Namgyal Lhatse monastery, went to offer their condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the recovery of the injured and rehabilitation of the affected.
The procession, which was held in the evening by candlelight, started from the Tawang Monastery and ended at Masang Dungyur Mani, in the Old Market area. The processions were participated in by monks from different monasteries, public leaders, government officials, and members of various local organizations, including MMT, AMSU, ATDSU, and the Taxi Association, and bazaar secretaries and representatives from all three markets in Tawang.
As the community came together to grieve the loss and show support for those impacted by the earthquake, it served as a poignant symbol of their kindness and solidarity in the face of disaster.
