ITANAGAR: Arunqchal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday disclosed that the government may implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which mandates 33% reservation for women in legislative assembly by 2029 assembly elections.
As a part of this initiative, the Arunachal unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to field 20 women candidates in the 2029 elections in the state assembly, Khandu said while taking part in the 46th foundation day celebration of the party at the BJP headquarters here. He urged party workers to begin identifying and mentoring potential women leaders to ensure the effective realization of this goal.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the BJP in transforming governance, uplifting the lives of the people, and strengthening democracy, the chief minister expressed pride in being a part of a party deeply rooted in Indian values and committed to national progress.
Khandu urged party workers to continue their service with dedication, integrity, and a spirit of public service. He stressed the importance of remembering party leaders who have struggled and sacrificed for the party’s growth, stating that BJP is a party with a difference—committed not only to development but also to the preservation of India’s cultural heritage and the recognition of unsung heroes.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, the chief minister remarked that despite its long tenure in power, it had only promoted corruption and neglected the preservation of the nation’s rich cultural legacy. In contrast, he said, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dynamic leadership, BJP has launched Mission Viksit Bharat, aimed at holistic development across the country.
