ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government will begin relocating illegal immigrants to designated detention centres across the state in a phased manner, Advisor to Home Minister Mutchu Mithi has announced. The decision follows a high-level meeting convened on Tuesday to address the growing concern over undocumented foreigners, particularly Bangladeshi nationals and members of the Chakma-Hajong community. Home Minister Mama Natung chaired the meeting, which included deputy commissioners and superintendents of police from key districts - Papum Pare, Itanagar Capital Region, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Namsai, and Changlang, as well as representatives of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU). “The home department has been monitoring the situation for the past 20 to 25 days. Detection directives have already been issued to the DCs, and following discussions, search operations will be stepped up,” Mithi told reporters.
