Arunachal: Two NSCN-IM Cadres Arrested In Changlang For Extortion Activities

Two NSCN-IM cadres were arrested in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district for extorting local businesses. Security forces recovered weapons and documents during the operation.

ITANAGAR: A team of security personnel has captured two cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) in the Rima area of Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district.

The two individuals identified as Roney Rai alias Tutu (31) and Anong Singpho (30) were apprehended for their involvement in extortion activities aimed at local business owners and shopkeepers.

Based on precise intelligence, a joint operation was carried out by forces from 11 PARA (SF), 10 Assam Rifles, and the Changlang Police, led by Mahesh Singh of 11 PARA (SF).

According to the police, the operation began at around 3 am following specific intelligence inputs. During the operation, security forces seized a cache of items from the duo’s possession.

The seized items include a .32mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a sickle, a phone, and several documents. The suspects are currently under interrogation regarding their involvement in the activities.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Manipur Police arrested two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) on December 26.

The duo was arrested from Awang Wabagai Lamkhai in Imphal West district. They were accused of extorting money from several establishments in the region.

The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Imtiaz Khan, 45, and Irengbam Gulapi Singh, 43. The police said that the criminals were involved in extortion from brick farms, schools, and oil pumps at Pangei and Khongampat. Besides, they were also extorting money from a health center at Sekmai.
