BORDUMSA: A group of young people from Tezu town in Arunachal Pradesh conducted a bicycle for the cause of peace and the environment on Friday to mark World Bicycle Day 2022.
The cyclist team covering 20 kilometres from Tezu town to Demwe in Lohit district intended to campaign for peace in the world, in India and Arunachal Pradesh besides spreading awareness on the preservation and protection of the environment.
The ride started from Krick and Bourry Memorial School and concluded at the main market area in Tezu town.
"The event was the part of the three-day event organised by the Youth Association of St. Peter's Parish Church, Tezu, to mark the double celebrations of World Bicycle Day and World Environment Day,'' said Father Felix Anthony a cyclist enthusiast participating in the event himself.
Speaking at the start of the cycling, Aaron Yun, the leader of the group and a law graduate participant said "There is this visible environment of hate everywhere. We ride today to create an environment of peace and campaign for the promotion and protection of the environment".
"We are glad to join the rest of the world on this World Bicycle Day and we are happy that we rode for a purpose", said Ronica Mepo, a bicycle enthusiast.
"We need peace. The world needs peace now more than ever. The war between Russia and Ukraine has reached its 100th day today and there is no end in sight. We hope and pray that an atmosphere of love and peace comes to exist among humans all over the world soon," added Mr Mepo.
The youth have planned a massive plantation and cleanliness drive around the town to mark World Environment Day on Sunday. With the youth spearheading the cause of peace and the protection of the environment, there is hope for better days to come, said Father Thomas Mani, the Parish Priest at the end of the drive.
