Arunachal's Primary Health Centre bags Kayakalp Award 2021-22

ITANAGAR: In reassuring news, the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Kamhua Noknu under Pongchau circle in Longding district bordering Myanmar, has been selected for this year's Kayakalp Award from the state along with two other PHCs.

While PHC Wakka in the district, bagged a commendation award in the same category along with six other health facilities, official sources said today.

The winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation, while the commendation award winners will get Rs 50,000 and a citation each.

Kayakalp Awards are given annually to the health facilities with the highest standards of sanitation, hygiene and biomedical waste management. The Kayakalp initiative started in the year 2015 and aims to encourage and incentivize public health facilities (PHFs) in the country to demonstrate their commitment to cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices.

Longding Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego congratulated the entire team of PHC Kamhua Noknu and PHC Wakka for the achievement and encouraged them to keep up the momentum.

"This award has brought along more responsibilities on your shoulders and you have to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene befitting the expectations that accompany this award," the DC said.

District Medical Officer Dr Worar Taku was ecstatic about the news. "Finally, the sincere efforts and hard work put in by our dedicated staff of PHC K/Noknu and PHC Wakka have been recognized," he said.

Dr Taku also said that after his joining Longding as DMO, making PHC Kamhua Noknu functional with basic health services was his top priority. He also congratulated the Medical Officer in charge of PHC Kamhua Noknu Dr K Pegu and MO I/c of PHC Wakka Dr Jayashree Kakoti for the feat. The awards will be presented on June 8 during the annual state-level Kayakalp Awards function to be held at DK Convention Hall here, under the chairmanship of Health Minister Alo Libang.

In all, 18 healthcare facilities across the state have been chosen for Kayakalp Awards 2021-222 under 4 different categories.

Under category-1, District Hospital, Yingkiong (Upper Siang) has been declared the best hospital (winner), while the winner of the year 2020, Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH), Pasighat, East Siang will be getting a commendation award this time around.

Under category-2, CHC Kalaktang (West Kameng) has been declared the winner, while the CHCs of Rupa (West Kameng), Deomali (Tirap), Yazali (Lower Subansiri) and Sagalee (Papum Pare) chosen for commendation award.

Under category-3, PHCs of Kamhua Noknu (Longding), Loiliang (Lohit) and Bilat (East Siang) emerged winners, whereas PHCs of Jeying (Upper Siang), Tarasco (Papum Pare), Riga (Siang), Wakka (Longding), and of Sille, Rani and Yagrung (all from East Siang) were picked for commendation award.

Under category-4, Health & Wellness Center - Sub-Centre New Lainwang of Tirap district has been adjudged as the best HWC-SC in Tirap, the sources added.
