ITANAGAR: A mock drill focused on earthquake and disaster preparedness was conducted at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, which was jointly organized by the state disaster response force (SDRF) and the district police.

The drill aimed to raise awareness among local shopkeepers and prepare them to act as first responders during emergencies such as earthquakes, fires, and building collapses.

As part of the exercise, 25 volunteers were selected from among the participants and were awarded certificates of appreciation for their willingness to contribute during crises.

The Pasighat fire and emergency services department, led by officer-in-charge Babul Pangging, conducted a live fire demonstration and educated the public on safety protocols, including essential dos and don’ts during a fire emergency.

SP Fire and Emergency Services and Nodal Officer Jhon Pada, who oversaw the event, emphasised the importance of building a community-based response team.

“This is an effort to create additional force as first responders during disasters,” he said. Pada also distributed 10 fire extinguishers to shopkeepers to enhance fire preparedness.
