Itanagar: In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency and speed of electoral services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure the delivery of Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update to the electoral rolls.
This includes both new voter enrolments and changes in existing voter details.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve voter convenience, as envisioned by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi.
The new system will enable real-time tracking of the entire process, from the generation of the EPIC by the electoral registration officer (ERO) to its final delivery through the postal department.
Electors will receive SMS updates at every stage, ensuring transparency and keeping them informed about the status of their EPICs.
To facilitate this enhanced delivery mechanism, the ECI has launched a dedicated IT module within its newly developed ECINet platform.
The platform replaces the older system by streamlining workflows and integrating the DoP's Application Programming Interface (API) for seamless coordination and dispatch.
