Efforts on to make Parshuram Kund in Arunachal a major tourist destination

The Arunachal Pradesh government is making all-out effort to transform Parshuram Kund, a holy site in Lohit district, as a major tourist destination of the state.

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government is making all-out effort to transform Parshuram Kund, a holy site in Lohit district, as a major tourist destination of the state.

The upcoming 51-foot high statue of sage Parshuram will add glory to the kund, which is expected to be completed next year. The holy site located in the lower reaches of the Lohit River where, thousands of pilgrims throng every year especially, on Makar Sankranti, for a holy dip to wash away sins.

To make it a more attractive tourist destination, the kund area is being developed under PRASAD scheme of the Union Tourism ministry at an estimated cost of Rs 37.87 crore, which is being executed by PWD Namsai division. State Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who hails from the area, is the brainchild behind the Parsuram project and striving hard to bring lot of progress in this backward part of the state.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the statue on May 21 last year. The site would soon be connected with railway line, once the clearance is being made from the defence ministry.

However, a two-lane road from Brahmakund (Parshuram kund) to Chowkham (61 km) has been sanctioned by the union Ministry of Road Transport & Highway (MoRTH) with an estimated cost of Rs 915 crore.
