Flash flood washes away bridge in Arunachal Pradesh

A Bailey bridge connecting two strategic locations in the Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh was washed away by a flash flood

ITANAGAR: A Bailey bridge connecting two strategic locations in the Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh was washed away by a flash flood, an official of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) said here on Sunday.

The bridge over the river Oyong near Kororu village that links Koloring, the district headquarters with Damin, was washed away Saturday, snapping communication along the Indo-China border road maintained by the BRO.

BRO's Project Arunank chief engineer Brig Anirudh S Kanwar informed that a major flash flood with huge boulders washed away the bridge on the road between Koloriang to Huri about one km from Lee, in the district.

The flash flood was so huge that the washed away bridge parts are not even visible and only one bridge panel could be seen 100 metres downstream.

"All necessary manpower and machines have been mobilized to undertake the task on priority basis by the 119 the Road Construction Company (RCC) of 756 BRTF under Project Arunank. The officer commanding (OC) of 119 RCC Roshan and platoon commander Maj Mohit Kumar are working on the site," he informed.

Kurung Kumey Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ocean Gao informed that he has contacted the OC of 119 RCC and assured all possible help for early restoration of the road link.

An officer has been sent for spot verification and report, the ADC added.
