ITANAGAR: The founder and director of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), Sonam Wangchuk, has divulged his 'vision' to establish the satellite office of the institute across the Himalayan belt to proliferate the idea of innovation in sustainable development blended with the indigenous tribes. He also cited the innovative initiatives undertaken by HIAL, including the Ice Stupa, responsible tourism, and eco-responsive buildings, to bring about transformation in the lives of the rural people of Ladakh. He was interacting with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) officials, who are on a study tour to Ladakh, during a consultative meeting at Leh.
Chief Executive Officer-cum-Dean of HIAL, Geetanjali J. Angmo, was also present. Programme Manager of SISD from the state, Tuhina Gao, briefed the meeting on the Ministry of Rural Development's (MoRD)-funded project 'Impacting the Transitory Life of the Brokpa Tribe' with a prime focus on sustainable development in synchronisation with an environment-friendly approach at Dirang in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project will benefit 1500 individuals in Lubrang, Mandala Pududung, Nyukmadung, and Senge villages through holistic development in health, livelihoods, and FNHW indicators, maintaining the social fabric of the Brokpa community, she said. Geetanjali spoke on the systematic integration approach propounded to the model of holistic and integral learning and learning by doing to implement the innovative projects by HIAL. She expressed her willingness to partner with ArSRLM and to visit Dirang to undertake the 'Brokpa' project. State Mission Manager Hillang Tasap also spoke on the occasion, an official release informed here on Friday.
