GUWAHATI: An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 was reported near Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning. On 4th May, 5.18 am, the earthquake struck the northeastern state.

On the other hand, on 19 February on Sunday afternoon, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Arunachal Pradesh's western region. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake was logged around 12:12 p.m.

At a depth of 10 kilometres, the earthquake's epicentre was located in West Kameng, close to the Bhutanese border.

Since the beginning of the year, earthquakes have been occurring frequently in northeast India. Between January 1 and March 14, 2023, there were at least 30 mild and light tremors in the northeastern part of the country.

Many people are worried about the worst because of the numerous earthquakes that have shaken the area in just over two months.

The area saw its first tremors on January 1, 2023. The West Karbi Anglong hill district of Assam was struck by a 3.2 magnitude earthquake.

The following earthquake, measuring 3.3 in magnitude, struck Mizoram's Saitual district on January 7.

Up to seven further earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 4.8 on the Richter scale, shook the area throughout the first month of the year.

The worst-affected state in the area was Manipur, which saw four earthquakes. Assam and Mizoram were next, each experiencing two quakes.

A total of 16 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.0 struck the Northeast in February.

The state of Assam saw the most earthquakes last month—five—followed by Meghalaya and Manipur, which each saw four. In the second month of 2023, there were two earthquakes in Arunachal Pradesh and one in Mizoram.

The entire area is divided into four seismic zones according to the country's seismic zoning map. Zone II has the lowest seismic activity, whereas Zone V has the most. Zone V makes up around 11% of the country, Zone IV makes up 18%, Zone III makes up 30%, and Zone II makes up the rest.
