ITANAGAR: Frustrated with NEEPCO’s perceived apathetic attitude towards its long-overdue demands to regularize 48 contractual (technical) employees, the Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee announced a 36-hour shutdown around the project site from January 9 to 10.

The bandh was called after the expiry of its 20-day ultimatum served on November 11 last year. Earlier, the affected families staged various sit-ins to pressurize the authority concerned.

Making this announcement at a press conference here today, PPLAWC general secretary Bengia Tada alleged that NEEPCO continued to ignore their demands to regularize the 48 contractual (Technical) employees as promised by them itself before the commencement of the project.

“Years have passed, they have progressed, but we have been abandoned and yet not seen any benefit from our sacrifices,” said Tada. Tada informed that prior to starting the project, NEEPCO agreed to give regular jobs to 48 youth from land affected families who received ITI training from project affected families.

“But much to our dismay, the NEEPCO backtracked from its promise and instead of giving regular appointments the 48 youths were given a two-year service contract which was later extended for another year which would expire this January,” he alleged.

Tada said that this time they want to complete regularization and will not accept the further extension of their contractual service.
