Second Plant of PepsiCo India in Northeast to Come Up in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: The second plant of PepsiCo India in the northeast is all set to come up in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Arunachal chief minister, Pema Khandu took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "Had a productive meeting with Mr Ravi Jaipuria, Chairman Varun beverages Ltd, along with Sh @KirenRijiju.

Glad to share that the 2nd plant of Pepsi in #NorthEast will be coming to Arunachal with various other chains of food craft outlets in tourist destinations across the State."

Meanwhile, CM Khandu also stated that various other chains of food craft outlets will be made available in the tourist destination of Arunachal Pradesh.

Earlier in 2020, the food and beverages major, PepsiCo India has submitted a proposal to set up a greenfield project for manufacturing Lays and Kurkure chips in Assam worth Rs 400 crores. PepsiCo India President Ahmed ElSheikh speaking to media said that the company is committed to double its business from snacks business in India and also increasing the capacity of existing food plants in West Bengal and Maharashtra, and it has additionally proposed to set up a greenfield manufacturing facility in Assam.

With a mission to support local farmers, PepsiCo India said that the company would engage in contract farming (buyback policy) whereby it would provide seeds to the farmers and buy back the matured potatoes from them.

Currently, PepsiCo India has been working with over 24,000 farmers in 13 states of India.

PepsiCo India has emerged as one of the largest food and beverage companies in the country in 30 years of its establishment in India and is looking to build further.

On the other hand, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports (I/C) said that a presentation for Sports infrastructure at the National Center of Excellence at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh was made before the CM Khandu.
