BORDUMSA: Chakam Kumar Taikam of the first generation graduates amongst the Tangsa community in the Changlang district passed away here at the wee hours on Tuesday at his residence at Miao in Eastern Arunachal. Taikam (89), the former Principal of Bordumsa Higher Secondary School, was bed-ridden for the past few weeks due to old-age ailments. Hundreds of well wishers, relatives, represtatives of various local NGOs, government officials offered condolence.
Taikam had served in various capacities in the Education department for more than three decades. “He was one of the first-generation graduates from the Tangsa community who had joined government service as a teacher in 1971 and was instrumental in establishing the Government Primary School at Miao in 1972 for which he was conferred with State Teacher’s Award,” said Somlung Mossang, Taikam’s son-in-law.
“A native of Khasan Jugli village of Khasan, Changlang district, my father-in-law had served as headmaster of various schools at Kharsang, Sompoi, Manmow and Koloriang,” added Gabrial D Wangsu, the MLA of Kanubari. He had also served as Assistant Director of State Resource Centre of the then Directorate of Public Instructions, Naharlagun before being promoted as Principal of GHSS, Bordumsa from where he took voluntary retirement in 2005, added the Kanubari legislator.
A man of absolute honesty and sincerity, Taikam and his wife Dharitri Taikam, who predeceased him in 2002, had set a perfect example of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ despite multiple challenges as they raised their five daughters who are all serving as officers.
Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu took to social media to convey his condolence. He said, “Former Principal Chakam Taikam was among first generation of graduates from the Tangsa community. He shall be remembered for moulding lives of innumerable children. His passing away is a sad news. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved family. May Lord Buddha give peace to his soul.”
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein wrote on social media, “Saddened to learn about the passing away of former Principal Shri Chakam Taikam ji, one of the pioneering graduates from the Tangsa community. His dedication to education has left an indelible impact on the lives of countless children, shaping their futures in profound ways. During this difficult time of grief, extending my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace.”
Arunachal minister Kamlung Mossang, Executive Engineer PWD, Jairampur, Er. Mitung Mize the sons-in-law of the deceased, also expressed deep condolence terming him as an “examplary father” producing five bold, brilliant and successful daughters. Taikam is survived by five daughters and their families.
