ITANAGAR: Union Minister for DoNER and Telecommunications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Friday inaugurated the legislature orientation and training programme for BJP MLAs of Arunachal Pradesh at Sonapur, near Guwahati.

The four-day event aims to strengthen the capacity and leadership skills of elected representatives through structured learning modules. Highlighting the importance of continuous learning in public service, Scindia said that legislators are not just policymakers but also thinkers, lawmakers, and public servants.

“We must consistently engage in training and orientation to enhance our ability to deliver effective governance and ensure last-mile delivery,” he said.

The minister stressed that programmes like these are essential for knowledge building and leadership development, expressing hope that the sessions will significantly empower the state’s lawmakers. Citing recent national developments, he added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has shown zero tolerance towards terrorism, referring to ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched in response to the Pahalgam incident.

“The new India will not compromise in the face of terrorism,” he asserted.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, in his address, praised the legislators for participating in the training with commitment and enthusiasm. “Like any successful organisation, political leadership also requires regular training. This programme, based on thirteen structured modules, is designed to equip our MLAs with the tools needed to shape effective policy,” he said.

Khandu also announced that more such programmes would be held in the future and acknowledged the gap in training due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He noted that this is the second edition of the programme, the first being held in Mumbai after the 2019 elections. The current training resumes in 2025 under the new state BJP president, Kaling Moyong.

In his presidential address, Moyong highlighted the importance of maintaining public trust, stating, “The people of Arunachal Pradesh have shown immense faith in the BJP by electing our MLAs. It is now our responsibility to uphold that trust through dedicated service, and this training programme is a step in that direction.”
