GOLAGHAT: The 142 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrated its 87th Raising Day with patriotic zeal and vibrant enthusiasm at its unit headquarters in Jonaki Nagar, Golaghat on Sunday. The celebrations were led by Mohinder Kumar, Commandant, 142 Bn CRPF, and witnessed active participation from officers, jawans, their families, and members of the local community.

The day commenced with an energetic Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) cycle rally, organized under the national campaign ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle,’ launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in December 2024.

The rally saw enthusiastic participation from gazetted and subordinate officers, jawans, family members, as well as representatives from Golaghat Sai Club, DR College, and NCC cadets from various educational institutions. The initiative aimed to promote fitness, encourage healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness about obesity prevention among CAPF personnel and the wider society.

Following the rally, a solemn two-minute silence was observed in tribute to CRPF martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The homage, led by the Commandant, served as a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication of CRPF personnel in the service of the nation.

Commandant Mohinder Kumar addressed the troops. In his speech, he underlined the importance of discipline, devotion to duty, and service to the nation, which form the cornerstone of CRPF’s ethos. He congratulated the battalion on its consistent dedication and urged all personnel to continue excelling in both professional duties and personal well-being.

A brief historical presentation traced the CRPF’s proud journey since its establishment on 27 July 1939 as the Crown Representative’s Police. Post-Independence, it was reorganized and renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament in 1949.

Today, CRPF stands as India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, comprising 247 battalions and over 3 lakh personnel (as of 2019). The force also plays an important role in United Nations peacekeeping missions, reflecting India’s commitment to global peace.

The 87th Raising Day of 142 Bn CRPF was a befitting celebration of the force’s valour, dedication, and legacy. The day reaffirmed the battalion’s unwavering commitment to its national duty and concluded with renewed pride, unity, and esprit de corps, echoing the enduring spirit of the CRPF.
