31 test COVID-19 positive in Golaghat district; 54 persons quarantined

NUMALIGARH: A total of 54 persons were quarantined in the boys' hostel of JDSG College in Bokakhat in Golaghat district. All of them returned to Assam from Chennai by train on May 20.

After their arrival, swab samples were taken and all were kept under quarantine. Among the 54 persons, 31 tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. On the other hand, Bonti Saikia, the wife of Ajit Saikia who died recently in Delhi, also tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time. On March 28, Bonti Saikia, Ajit Saikia and Konkonjyoti Bora had tested positive for COVID-19 and were admitted in the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in New Delhi. But due to his poor health condition, Ajit Saikia was shifted to Loknayak Joyprakash Hospital where he died on May 7. But his family members came to know about his death on May 16 only.

On the other hand, both Bonti Saikia and Konkonjyoti Bora tested negative for COVID-19 on May 11 and they reached Assam on May 22. Bonti Saikia was quarantined at Prashanti Lodge in Kohora since then. She tested positive for COVID-19 again for the second time after the results of her swab test came out on Wednesday. As per information available, no one before her tested positive for COVID-19 twice. Experts till now have been claiming that once a person is declared COVID-19 free, he may not be infected again with the novel coronavirus again.

Meanwhile, all the 31 COVID-19 positive persons from JDSG quarantine centre were shifted to the COVID-19 hospital in Golaghat. Bonti Saikia, on the other hand, was shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
