GUWAHATI: A gang of four members have been arrested in relation to the seizure of a dozen crude bombs near a railway track at station Kadavu located in Thiruvanthapuram of Kerala.

Two of the four arrested persons have been identified as the residents of Assam, informed police.

On Wednesday 28 April, the railway police team recovered at least 12 country-made explosive devices while looking for a gang of 5 men hiding in between bushes close to the railway track.

The officials successfully seized the explosives hidden amid the bushes on Wednesday night but at that time the group of men managed to flee after getting aware of police approaching.

However, on Thursday morning, police arrested four men identified as 43 years old Sulfi, 45-year-old Santosh, 18 years old Shahjahan and 30 years old Rahman.

Police informed that Shahjahan and Rahman have been identified as natives of the northeastern state of Assam.

All four have been charged under the Explosives Act and remanded to judicial custody barring the first accused person who is still on run.

According to police sources, the first accused has planned with the other group members to attack a rival gang that reportedly assaulted him in a recent incident.

Notably, the first accused and Santosh has records of previous criminal cases registered against them in different police stations.

However, the main role of the two accused from Assam in the entire crude bomb case is yet to be ascertained by the police.

Hari CS, the Kazhakootam ACP informed that after the explosives were seized from the railway track, officials conducted a search operation in the area but no bombs were found.

He added that the police will continue to search for more explosive devices in the surrounding areas of the railway station.

Meanwhile, police have been investigating whether the criminal gangs were the person behind the stockpiling of crude bombs.
