58th Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan underway at Golaghat Samannay Khetra

GOLAGHAT: The 58th Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan kicked off on Tuesday at Golaghat Samannay Khetra with a cultural procession. Various folk dances of Assam were presented in the procession. The procession started from Samanaykhetra and passed through Golaghat town. The All Golaghat District Students’ Union, with the help of people of Golaghat, organized the Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan with a three-day long programme from April 30 to May 2.

For smooth conduct of the Bihu Sanmilan, an organizing committee had been formed with Rohit Gogoi as president, Debajit Phukan as working president, Partha Jyoti Bora and Mridul Saikia as joint secretaries, along with different sub-committees.

On the first day of the programme, the flag of Golaghat Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan was hoisted by the president of the organizing committee, Rohit Gogoi followed by smriti tarpan by its joint secretary Partha Jyoti Bora and Mridul Saikia. Later Bihu Sewa and Akhalor Mel were declared open by the working president of the organizing committee, Debajit Phukan. A cultural procession was carried out throughout Golaghat which was flagged off by Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Dhiran Hazarika. In the evening, the Xoru Bihuwati and husori competitions were held. The competition of Jeng Bihu and Bor Bihuwati, known as Mejangkari, will be held on May 1and the Swarnalata Saikia memorial local artiste programme will also be held on that day.

On May 2, the pitha making, gamusa and fresh flower decoration will be held and later the Dhansiri Upatyaka Bota will be given to noted artist Bipul Chetia Phukan and a souvenir titled Bihuwan will be released. In the cultural programme in the evening, the famous singer Zubeen Garg will perform.
