LAKHIMPUR: The 61st celebration of Rongali Bihu by Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Bihu Sanmilan with a four-day long colourful programme, concluded on Thursday. As per the agenda of the concluding day of the event, various competitions were held. The open session, which was inaugurated by social activist Uday Sankar Hazarika, was held with celebration committee president Nazim Ahmed in the chair. The annual publication of the Sanmilan, Bihuwan was released by Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B in the same programme. A galaxy of literary, cultural, academic personalities of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh along with organizational dignitaries graced the occasion as guests. Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Dr. Ranjit Tamuli and Padma Shri Uddhav Bhorali were given warm felicitation in the programme.
The winners of the various competitions organized on the event were given away their prizes in the same event. The Sanmilan organized some unique programmes in the event for the conservation of the bio-diversity in nature. In this regard, a drive for plantation of kapou phool on the second day was taken to conserve the orchid. Simultaneously, a massive drive for plantation of saplings of lofty trees was undertaken at Hatilung football playground to preserve the big birds. In addition to these, competitions on the traditional sports related to the Rongali Bihu, other ethnic cultures, traditional attires and cuisines related to the festival were also organized.
