A tribute to Ghanada Nath Mandal

Sentinel Digital Desk

My father-in-law Ghanada Nath Mandal, a national-level footballer and FIFA referee, passed away on December 30, 2020 in Maligaon, Guwahati after prolonged illness.

Born on February 10, 1938, he was a well known figure in the soccer circuit of the State. He represented Assam in Santosh Trophy during 1960 and 1961. In the club level he played for all top clubs of Guwahati, including Maharana Club, Gauhati Town Club and Sporting Union.

After taking retirement from football he collected FIFA badges and supervised many matches at different levels. Ghanada even officiated a soccer match where his younger son SandeepMandal, also a footballer, turned out for his team in the same game.

As a person he was very amiable and always took care of the family and close friends. For the last 21 years of my marriage I have never seen him to be agitated on a single occasion and always treated me and my sister in law as her daughter.

Today, on his AdyaSraddha, I pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
