On your adhya shradha today, on behalf of all your loved ones, I extend great homage to you. Although you are not here physically, but your personality was so pure and great that even death gave you the boon of immortality. And to describe such a great personality is not an easy task for me. I feel loss of words today as I fear that my words might lessen the huge amount of self- respect you had. For the sake of the latter, you had sacrificed many honorable titles, including that of a freedom fighter without any hesitation.
Starting from being the secretary of the Gyanoddipika Sabha to the secretary of District Student Congress, Sivasagar, you were also the organizing secretary of the State Student Congress. You had always believed in helping, not being helped. You brought your close friend Dr. Nirmalprabha Bordoloi out of her shell to serve the nation through the Student Congress. She later went on became a renowned writer and also the president of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. In her autobiography Jibon Jibon Bor Anupam, she rightly depicted you as a 'patriot by heart and soul'. After Independence, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Gram Swaraj, you sacrificed the name and fame that you achieved and started a new life in a remote village. You established many schools with the help of the local people of Noloni, Borpothar and Dolopa as you knew the importance of education. You also took up the responsibility of a head teacher in a school. Your principle of 'teaching with stick' is still honored by your students who have achieved heights of success, like famous film producer and director, Jahnu Baruah and veteran politician and minister Bimal Borah.
Walking bare feet and wearing khadi, you spent your whole life and left this materialistic world at the age of 95. Being your granddaughter, I have only heard about all these from my father. But from all the stories, I can point out one special attitude of yours - 'giving more, taking less'. Oh Koka, rest in peace and bless us from eternal abode!
