DIGBOI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Assam chapter vice-president, Manoj Dhanowar on Friday recalled the glorious days of peace and amity during the 40 years’ tenure of the former MLA of Digboi, Rameswar Dhanowar.

The AAP leader was addressing the people who had joined AAP here at Bogapani TE garden line residence in the presence of a significant number of supporters from the tea tribe community. Dhanowar was accompanied by the state and district office bearers of AAP in the event.

Dhanowar was bringing in a contrasting picture of Digboi in the context of the recently launched eviction drive by the Railways in the Bogapani area wherein several families had been rendered homeless. Dhanowar said that in place of Suren Phukan, the present Digboi MLA of the BJP, the people now should bring in a candidate who is a replica of Rameswar Dhanowar, whose 40 years’ tenure was characterized by peaceful co-existence.

Addressing around 500 members of the BJP and Congress who were inducted into AAP, Dhanowar said that people should not trust parties like the BJP and Congress.

AAP, which is trying to strengthen its base in Digboi, will face a stiff opposition from the BJP. The AAP has managed to secure people’s attention. AAP leader Dhanowar, hailing from the tea tribe community, is reportedly set to grind his political axe in the wake of growing rifts between the tea garden electorates and the sitting BJP MLA in Digboi over several issues. How far AAP is able to mobilize people and harp on the success story of Arvind Kejriwal is worth noting in the subsequent days.

However, BJP legislator Suren Phukan, who is also considered to be a giant player on the ground, is reportedly pitching on development cards.
