AAMSU stages 4-hour sit-in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The Kokrajhar district committee of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) on Monday staged a 4-hour sit-in-demonstration in protest against the CAA, 2019 at Children Park, Kokrajhar. The demonstration was also taken part by the Nath Yogi Students’ Union. The demonstration was started at 10 am where around fifty activists joined the demonstration.

Talking to mediapersons, the president of Kokrajhar district committee, AAMSU Aminul Islam said the student body will not accept the CAA as it will finish off the Assamese language, culture and religion in Assam. He said the illegal foreigners will have a field day to take all opportunities meant for the indigenous people of the State to be exploited by them. He also said the AAMSU will never accept the CAA and the movement against this Act will be continuing till it is abrogated.

Meanwhile, the statewide protest programmes against the CAA has hit the normal life hard in every nook and corner of the State. Though the government of India ensured no impact of the new Act in 6th Schedule administrations in the region, the BTC area is also suffering from the intense protest. There has been not much tough agitation programme in the council but the impact of the protest has hit hard. In Kokrajhar, the internet services were suspended on December 12 and it is yet to be restored. People are worried for supply of cooking gas and other essential commodities.

On the other hand, the chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary while attending a programme at Fakiragram on Sunday said they were concerned about the present situation of the State and BTC as well. He said peace was battered due to ongoing protests. He called upon all to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the region as the act was done with majority representatives in both the houses in Parliament. He also said the BPF was planning to hold a peace rally to install confidence among the people of all communities on CAA.
