AASU calls for 48-hour ONGC bandh on September 27

SIVASAGAR: The All Sivasagar District Students' Union (ASDSU) has once again resurfaced against the India's leading oil and gas production company ONGC, Assam Asset, accusing the anti-Assam stance at the instigation of the non-Assamese lobby that has emerged inside the institution.

Along with various organizations, AASU had been demonstrating various protests against ONGC's anti-local policy. As alleged by the students' body, ONGC, Assam Asset is currently incurring losses and mining and production process have also been vastly influenced due to the negligence of a section of some officials and anti-Assam stance of the company.

In a press statement signed by president and general secretary of ASDSU Manab Hazarika and Dipankar Saikia stated that AASU has called for a 48-hour ONGC bandh on September 27. AASU has called for the bandh for ONGC's anti-Assam stance and various other issues.

The release stated that the students' body had submitted a memorandum through a protest to Executive Director & Asset Manager of ONGC, Assam Asset on August 10 asking the ONGC to clarify its position on the demands within 15 days and to hold a tripartite meeting under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner, which the ONGC authority has not responded till date.
