SILCHAR: As expected, ABVP won all the 10 seats in the students’ union election in GC College on Friday. As the NSUI, the students’ wing of the Congress withdrew itself from the fray alleging gross violation of the Lyngdoh Commission recommendations, the field was open for the saffron brigade. The non descript TMCP, the students’ wing of Trinamool Congress fielded four candidates who eventually failed to leave any mark in the voting.
However, rain and inclement weather played spoilt sports as only 1,014 out of 5,360 students registered their votes, which was done exclusively on computers. Rohit Chanda of ABVP defeated Anjuma Aktar Laskar, an independent candidate for the post of president while Tushar Ghose defeated Nandini Ghose of TMCP for the general secretary post. Chanda later claimed that their success was the victory of the nationalistic ideals of the saffron brigade.
Meanwhile, Dipayan Chakraborty, the local MLA congratulated the ABVP candidates. Susmita Dev, the TMC MP from West Bengal also visited GC College to motivate the TMCP candidates.
