After 16 days of gas leakage, an ONGC well in Assam was capped: Hardeep Puri

Following 16 days of gas leakage from the Sivasagar area of Assam, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Friday that ONGC has effectively sealed the blowout of its crude oil well.

On June 12, the blowout occurred at Well No. RDS 147A of Rig No. SKP 135 of the ONGC's Rudrasagar oil field in Barichuk, Bhatiapar.
 
According to him, there were no fires, casualties, or injuries throughout the capping process.

 "ONGC has successfully capped the blowout of well RDS#147A at 1115 hours hrs today. This blowout started on 12th June and has been capped successfully within shortest possible time following all the best practices," Puri said in a post on X. 

He stated that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) crisis management team and the global well control specialists "finally brought the curtains down on the gas well blowout through meticulous planning and concerted efforts in a safe manner, without any injury, casualty or fire, testifying the competency of crisis management".

The petroleum and natural gas minister also expressed gratitude to state government representatives and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their assistance to the team on the ground.

On June 12, a blowout occurred at Well No. RDS 147A of Rig No. SKP 135 of the ONGC's Rudrasagar oil field near Barichuk, Bhatiapar. The state-owned Maharatna corporation was using a private company, SK Petro Services, to operate the well.
As a precaution, about 350 families were moved out of the surrounding neighborhoods.
