After Gogoi accuses BJP-RSS over Dhubri beef row, CM demands proof of Hindu involvement in the case

Before blaming Hindus for recent communal unrest episodes and "insulting" the community, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asked state Congress President Gaurav Gogoi to provide hard evidence.

In an interview with media in North Lakhimpur, Sarma vehemently denounced what he called unfounded accusations and charged the Congress of carrying on its tradition of "appeasement politics."
The BJP leader's comments follow Gogoi's assertion that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was inflaming communal tensions in the run-up to the 2026 assembly elections.

Sarma claimed that no Hindu was responsible for the alleged meat being thrown at two temples in the districts of Dhubri and Goalpara.
The chief minister of Assam refuted the allegations, emphasizing that Hindus did not commit such crimes.

“For someone to imagine and claim that a Hindu person can place a cow head in a temple, his entire thinking must be so narrow-minded and blackened,” he said, as reported by news agency PTI.

"If he (Gogoi) has any proof, I appeal to him to submit it to the government before insulting the Hindu society," he added.

The majority of the people arrested in relation to the incident, he claimed, are members of the minority group. "All the people arrested for this incident in Lakhipur (Goalpara) and Dhubri are from the minority community. We have not found involvement of any Hindu people," he said.

Police said that they've already detained 50 people in Dhubri and five in Goalpara. Additionally, the Chief Minister said that the majority of the minority population has condemned the actions.

“They do not support such actions and have strongly criticised them,” he added.
