TINSUKIA/DIGBOI, July 26: In the run-up to the Independence Day celebration, the security forces busted an ULFA camp and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the forest adjacent to Lakhipathar-Amguri Moran Gaon under Digboi PS in Tinsukia district on Thursday. In a joint operation of Army and police, the security forces recovered five pistols, two grenades, live cartridges, old currency notes valued at Rs 1.45 lakh, food items, utensils, torches and clothes. “To foil the efforts of the ULFA militants in their subversive designs ahead of the outfit’s martyrs’ day on July 27 across Tinsukia district, a massive anti-insurgency operation was carried out which led to the recovery of lethal weapons and ammunition,” informed Mugdhajyoti Mahanta, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police. Though the police claimed that it prevented a major subversive act of the militants on the eve of Independence Day, the local people told media persons that it was a drama enacted by the security forces.
