AHRC visits quarantine centers across Goalpara district

GOALPARA: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) on Wednesday visited Goalpara district and took cognizance of the condition of the quarantine centres and their management. Justice T. Vaiphei, chairperson of the Commission, along with member DK Saikia inspected the centres set up at the Women Development Centre, Mariyamnagar and St. Thomas School, Bhalukdubi. They were also accompanied and guided, on behalf of the district administration, by Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka.

District administration sources that the commission expressed satisfaction over the management of the quarantine centres. Post visit to the quarantine centres, the Commission also went to the Goalpara district jail and verified whether or not the government rules were being maintained. Sources said that the Commission expressed satisfaction with regard to the management of the district jail also. During the visit, the Commission interacted with both the jail inmates and quarantine centre inmates.
