LAKHIMPUR: Allegation of fund misappropriation has been levelled against the contractor appointed for construction of a road under Dhakuakhana LAC. In this regard, the Dhakuakhana regional unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) issued a threat to initiate stir unless the road was repaired as per estimate.

The road which has come under scanner is the 8-km stretch of Khajuwa Tiniali to Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra connecting road which has been repaired with fund amounting to Rs 1 crore sanctioned under MLA fund. A contractor was appointed for repairing and blacktopping work of the road which has been in a dilapidated condition for years. As per report, the pits in the road were filled up with sand gravel during the last three days and the blacktopping work started from Thursday.

But the local people suggested the supervisor of the work under the contractor not to do the blacktopping work due to inclement weather. But the supervisor concerned allegedly turned a deaf ear to the suggestions of the local people and started the work. As a result of it, the new layer of the blacktopping split just after the work was done. It has been alleged that no due technical process was resorted to with regard to the repair and blacktopping work of the road. The regional AJYCP unit and the local people have demanded the Dhakuakhana subdivisional and Lakhimpur district administration to initiate due steps in this regard.
