LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) took to the streets on Tuesday demanding an end dalalraj - the dominance of middlemen- and alleged corruption in the Lakhimpur Public Works Department.

In this regard, the activists of the organization staged demonstration in North Lakhimpur town and demanded the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and called upon him to order an inquiry into the alleged unabated corruption taking place in all PWD schemes being implemented at present in the district. The organization further demanded the Chief Minister to initiate his steps to end the dominance of middlemen and the commission game in the department concerned.

According to Lakhimpur AJYCP general secretary Jyoti Das, the dalalraj in the Lakhimpur PWD and the corruption in almost all the PWD schemes had come into the notice of the organization.

"The use of low quality materials by the contractors and Lakhimpur PWD officials and the non-implementation of the schemes concerned as per estimate have made us all surprised. Moreover, the allegation of involvement of an activist of the ruling party in the allotment of PWD scheme work order for cash transaction has raised the eyebrows of the public. So, we have demanded the Chief Minister, who always stresses zero tolerance against corruption, to initiate steps to make Lakhimpur PWD free of corruption," said the Lakhimpur AJYCP general secretary.
