DIBRUGARH: The All Assam Development Authority Employees' Joint Council (AADAEJC) said on Thursday that employees are now dying of hunger for non-receipt of their salary since months together.
Addressing a press conference here, Bani Kanta Baruah, president of AADAEJC, said, "Employees appointed were rendering their services since years together against payment of meagre salary. Meanwhile, some employees have retired from service due to superannuation without any retirement benefits."
"Accordingly, there were only 300 employees of various cadres appointed for smooth functioning. The non-payment of salary varies from 10 months to 60 months. The Government of Assam is maintaining silence over the grim situation of employees. Repeated memoranda have been submitted but our pleas have fallen into deaf ears," Baruah said.
He said, "Services of employees should be provincialized confirming the payment of salary from the government fund. Retirement benefits must be paid. Fund should be provided for proper implementation of welfare as well as income generation schemes. Development authorities should be made more functional like Delhi Development Authority, Calcutta Metropolitan Development," Baruah said.
