DIBRUGARH: Activists of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Monday staged a protest at Chabua in Dibrugarh against the failure of the State government in curbing the rising price of fuel and other essential commodities. The protesters also sought the resignation of State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass for failing to control price rise in the State.

The AASU members raised slogans against the BJP government and also burnt the effigy of Ranjeet Kumar Dass. The Chabua unit president Mridupaban Gogoi said, "The Food and Civil Supplies Minister has totally failed to control the price rise. We seek his immediate resignation for the good of the public. The price of essential commodities have shot through the roof while fuel price has gone beyond the common people's reach. Petrol has crossed Rs 100 per litre in the State while diesel price is nearing the century figure."

"The government should immediately take steps to curb the spiralling price of essential commodities and make it affordable for the common people. The price of fuel must also come down," the AASU leader said.
