KOKRAJHAR: Expressing apprehension on the possible large inflow of students seeking admission in colleges this year, All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Tuesday urged the government of Assam to ensure increase of admission intake capacity in the colleges and arrangement of temporary class rooms and appointment of more teachers and lecturers for a year to overcome the overflow.
Talking to mediapersons at a press conference held at Bodofa House, Kokrajhar, ABSU president Dipen Boro said there would be a possibility of overflow of students looking for admission in colleges as over 93 percent in HSLC and over 98 percent in HS (Arts, Science and Commerce stream) had passed out which is likely to create a big jam in the admission due to unmatched intake capacity in colleges. He said the government of Assam had assured to increase the intake capacity to 20 percent but according to them it would not be sufficient. "Most of the colleges are likely to face admission demand between 500 to 1200 students which is far beyond of normal capacity," he said adding that if such situation arises many students will be deprived from getting admission. He demanded that the government should ensure getting admission for the students of rural areas as well.
Boro urged the government to increase the intake capacity beyond 20 percent and open morning and evening shift if necessary. He demanded that there should be a provision for temporary class rooms, laboratories in each college to ensure giving usual class and laboratory class for which government should extend financial aid. He also demanded temporary appointment of teachers and lecturers in the higher secondary and senior secondary schools or colleges for atleast a year to meet the shortfall of teaching staff after opening of morning shift.
"The government of Assam should take all responsibilities to overcome the crisis of education. ABSU will cooperate with the government for the greater interest of the students," Boro said.
