GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a public rally in Assam's Dergaon, announced that over 10,000 youth have surrendered arms and joined the mainstream in the past decade.

He credited this shift to the combined efforts of the central and state governments in establishing peace, stability, and development in the region.

Shah noted the sheer transformation of Assam's geography, highlighting the fact that the state, which had previously suffered from insurgency and violence, has undergone a makeover beyond recognition.

He attributed the change to the prime ministership of Narendra Modi and the chief ministership of Himanta Biswa Sarma. "In the last 10 years, peace has returned to Assam. The youths who had taken up guns have now switched gears towards development and are engaged in working towards the state's development," he declared.

The Home Minister also thanked the Assam government for the measures it has taken to modernize infrastructure, generate employment opportunities, and initiate welfare schemes that have been crucial in maintaining peace. He once again assured the government of fulfilling its commitment to making Assam an economic growth hub and a model of cultural concord.

The Dergaon incident witnessed a sea of people gathered there to cheer the government's move towards offering security and stability.

Shah concluded his address by assuring the people of Assam that the government would continue to strive for maintaining law and order and inclusive development in the state.
