MERAPANI: Local people have alleged that anti-social activities have increased near the Oating market area under Jamuguri police station due to a liquor shop.

According to the local people, youths of the area have become addicted to alcohol due to the liquor shop. Seeing the liquor shop doing good business, few other liquor shops have also opened up near the market place. This has resulted in a rise in anti-social activities in the area, said sources. Every Sunday there is a weekly market where buyers and sellers come to sell and buy goods. They consume alcohol and this often gives rise to an unruly situation. Besides, the market area also touches some tea estates and the tea garden authorities as well as conscious people have expressed serious concern over the increase in number of liquor outlets. At the same time, the local liquor trade has also raised its ugly head in the area. Conscious people have urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate action in this regard.
