KOKRAJHAR: The district-level launch of the 100-Day National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) took place at Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary (JSB) Civil Hospital, Kajalgaon, in the Chirang district on Saturday, marking a crucial step in the Government of India’s mission to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025. The event was inaugurated by MP, Lok Sabha, Joyanta Basumatary, in the presence of Chirang District Commissioner, Jatin Bora.
During the launch, five Ni-Kshay Vahans (mobile medical units) were flagged off to provide free TB treatment and diagnostic services, including X-rays, to remote and underserved areas of Chirang district. The program also recognized and honoured 10 elderly TB survivors, the “TB Vijeta/TB Champions,” celebrating their resilience in overcoming the disease. The initiative focuses on targeted efforts to detect and treat tuberculosis cases while preventing new infections, especially in high-burden areas. The event was attended by dignitaries including Firdous Alam Sheikh, ADC (Health), Chirang; Dr. Rejaul Karim, Superintendent of JSB Civil Hospital & Jt. Director of Health Services, Chirang; Dr. Rajesh Pandey, District TB Officer; along with District Immunization Officer, hospital staff, and District Health Society representatives.
