Assam: 100th Falcon Festival kicks off at Umrangso

The 10th edition of Falcon Festival was inaugurated by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council CEM Debolal Garlosa in the presence of distinguished guests on Friday at Umrangso.

HAFLONG:The 10th edition of Falcon Festival was inaugurated by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council CEM Debolal Garlosa in the presence of distinguished guests on Friday at Umrangso.

CEM Garlosa also inaugurated various ethnic traditional cottages on the side-lines of the inauguration of the Falcon Festival by lighting the lamp. Others present, included council chairman Mohet Hojai, EM Danpainon Thaosen, council member Prabita Jauhari,  Falcon Festival convener Dhriti Thaosen, and Additional PCCF of Dima Hasao Forest Department Bipin Kumar Bansal.

“The Falcon Festival was launched in 2015 to raise awareness among the general public about the conservation of the migratory bird Amur Falcon and the carrying of falcons. The festival has already entered its tenth year. The Bolen Falcon Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Assam and the North East.

The newly appointed Additional PCCF Bipin Kumar of the Forest Department spoke of the potential of tourism around the various species of animals and birds in the forests of the Hills District. He also appreciated CEM Garlosa for the beautiful and successful organization of the Falcon Festival.

At the festival premises, traditional houses of the major tribes inhabiting the Umrangso town, namely the Dimasas, the Karbis, the Gorkhas, and the Biates have been displayed apart from governmental departmental stalls of tourism, veterinary, handloom & textile, agriculture & horticulture, and an Amur Falcon information centre by the Forest Department.

On the first day of celebration, a ramp walk of Miss Grand Falcon was displayed wherein 15 girls participated. Later, Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharjee enthralled the crowd with some of his best songs.
