GUWAHATI: On Friday night, 14 people were detained in Nagarbera, Assam's Kamrup Rural district, in connection with an assault that left three police officers seriously hurt.
The detained individuals include older people and women as well. Nagarbera police officers arrived at the location earlier yesterday to take into custody a suspect in a rape case. Once the accused's relatives and numerous others attacked the police officers, the situation swiftly got out of hand.
Three police officers were hurt during the incident. A few miscreants allegedly attempted to steal one of the police officers' service pistols but were unsuccessful. The incident happened when a police team went to the number 3 South Rangapani neighborhood to apprehend Munnaf Ali, a rape suspect.
The injured officers were later taken to a hospital for treatment.
Two youngsters who were abducted on Thursday from their Guwahati home have been freed in Bihar as of Saturday. The two children are currently enrolled at Mohua PS in Bihar's Vaishali district.
The youngsters were quickly rescued as a result of Guwahati Police and Bihar Police working together after the kidnapping was reported. To transport the victims back home, a squad from the Guwahati Police is already in Bihar.
According to media reports, two children, ages 4 and 9, were abducted from their home in Guwahati's Tetelia neighbourhood. The kids were allegedly abducted while they were playing in front of the residence by unidentified thugs.
The incident was reported to the Gaushala Outpost by the father of the youngsters, Madan Rai.
At least six people were detained earlier this month in connection with an abduction case that occurred close to ISBT in the Betkuchi neighbourhood of Guwahati. According to sources, a person, identified as Insaan Ali, was kidnapped near ISBT by the six suspects.
The victim's brother, Inamul Haque, filed a report about the kidnapping at the Gorchuk Police Station, which prompted the authorities to launch an investigation. The six accused were identified as Faijal Ali, Rabiul Haque, Sultan Sheikh, Sattar Ali, Omar Ali, and Saminul Haque. The police detained them during the investigation.
