Assam: 17-Year-Old Boy Drowns While Bathing in Pond in Diphu

Arindam, a resident of Basic LP School near Diphu Municipal Board, was bathing with friends Pragyan Kumar Boruah and Takeno Rengma when the incident occurred.

DIPHU: In an unfortunate incident, a 17-year-old boy, Arindam Kumar, tragically drowned in a pond at the backside of the botanical garden, 5 KM on the Diphu-Lumding Road, Diphu, under the Diphu police station, on Friday around 10:30 A.M.

Arindam, a resident of Basic LP School near Diphu Municipal Board, was bathing with friends Pragyan Kumar Boruah and Takeno Rengma when the incident occurred.

According to Pragyan Kumar Boruah, the three boys attempted to swim back from the other side of the pond, but Arindam drowned in the middle. Despite his friends' efforts to pull him out, he sank deeper into the water.

Locals nearby rescued the body, which was later taken for a post-mortem examination at Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H).

In another similar incident, a 12-year-old boy died tragically as he drowned in a pond. The incident took place in the Dharapur locality of the city last year in July.

The minor was identified as Arif Ali, and reports claim that he drowned while taking a bath in a pool with his friends. Local police and an SDRF team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident.

The SDRF team soon recovered the body of the minor from the pond. The body was later sent to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem procedures.
