Assam: 3,298 Candidates in the Fray for Panchayat Elections in Morigaon

The Morigaon district administration is all set to conduct the second phase of the upcoming Panchayat Elections on May 7.

JAGIROAD: The Morigaon district administration is all set to conduct the second phase of the upcoming Panchayat Elections on May 7.

A total of 3,298 candidates are contesting the elections across various tiers in the district. In the second phase alone, 29 candidates are contesting, while one candidate has won unopposed.

In the Anchalik Panchayats, there are 177 candidates in the fray, while 14 candidates have won unopposed. For the Gaon Panchayats, 1,892 candidates are contesting and 115 candidates have been elected unopposed.

According to the Morigaon District Election Branch, in the Jagiroad Co-District, eight candidates are contesting the Zilla Parishad seats. For the Anchalik Panchayats, 51 candidates are in the fray, with nine candidates winning unopposed. In the Gaon Panchayats, 574 candidates are contesting, and 61 candidates have been elected unopposed. In the Laharighat co-district, 14 candidates are contesting the Zilla Parishad seats. For the Anchalik Panchayats, there are 89 candidates, with one candidate winning unopposed. The Gaon Panchayats have 832 candidates, and 20 candidates have been elected unopposed. Candidates are actively campaigning from door to door in villages, accompanied by their supporters and party symbols.
