GOLAGHAT: In a joint anti-narcotics operation, Golaghat police, Karbi Anglong police, and 155 Bn CRPF intercepted a vehicle at No.1 Chungajan, seizing 671.92g of heroin worth ₹4 crore. The seized heroin was significantly hidden in 49 soap boxes, inside a secret chamber behind the back seat of the Bolero. However, one peddler has been arrested in this regard, and further investigation is ongoing.
In another similar anti-narcotics operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police intercepted a vehicle carrying a huge quantity of heroin at North Guwahati's Amingaon earlier in February. Led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, the operation led to the seizure of 600 grams of heroin valued at about Rs 4 crore being smuggled from Mizoram to Lower Assam.
Contraband was found hidden in a truck with registration number NL 01 AE 1147, concealed in a hidden compartment. The search of the vehicle uncovered 50 packets of the illegal drug, and it is proof of the strategies employed by traffickers to avoid being detected.
Meanwhile, the Assam police arrested a person in Nagaon district after confiscating 461 grams of heroin worth around Rs. 1 crore in March. The arrest was made after a tip-off that prompted the officials to stop a vehicle in the Gereki area.
