KAZIRANGA: A tragic incident occurred near Assam's Kaziranga National Park on Tuesday when a 56-year-old man was fatally attacked by a rhinoceros, as per reports. The deceased, identified as Bikram Lohar, was on his usual morning walk when the harrowing ordeal unfolded.

The attack occurred on National Highway 37, in the Hatikhuli Haldibari area, which is located near the park. Police reports suggest that Lohar was ambushed by the rhino, sustaining severe injuries during the attack. After the assault, he was quickly transported to the Shaheed Kamala Miri Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital in Bokakhat for medical treatment.

Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ best efforts to save him, Lohar succumbed to his injuries while receiving care at the hospital. The incident has sparked concerns among locals about the rising frequency of wild animals, particularly rhinoceroses, straying into human settlements near the park.

A similar tragic event occurred just a month ago when a 30-year-old man was also killed by a rhino in the same region. The recurrent nature of these incidents has prompted calls for stronger measures from the authorities to ensure the safety of both the public and wildlife in the area.

However, the growing human-wildlife conflict near its periphery is becoming a pressing issue, requiring urgent attention and a more proactive approach to prevent further loss of life.
