Assam: 849 Cachar schools get Rs 18 crore from Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd

The Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd had donated Rs 18.3 crore under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan CSR scheme to 849 schools in Cachar for the construction and repair of toilets and running water facilities.

SILCHAR: The Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd had donated Rs 18.3 crore under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan CSR scheme to 849 schools in Cachar for the construction and repair of toilets and running water facilities. The project covered, among others, Sonai, Katigorah, Udharband, Narsingpur, Lakhipur, Raja Bazar and Silchar-Salchapra blocks, involving remote locations to reach schools.

Inaugurating two of the newly-constructed toilets for the B C Memorial Academy High School, Udharband block, on Wednesday, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha thanked Powergrid for its generosity for the development of infrastructure related to education sector of the district. The fund would be utilized in more than 800 schools, Cachar had a total of 2000 schools out of which 40 per cent would now be covered by Powergrid. Approximately 90 per cent of the project is complete,” Jha added

Out of the 849 schools, repairing of toilets were taken up in 764 schools and new construction of toilets in 85 schools along with providing water supply facilities from existing source or new water source.

Powergrid’s DGM , Supriya Paul expressed his gratitude to the district administration during the implementation of the project while referring to the guidance offered by U Kataki, Head, NERTS & K Sreekanth, CMD PGCI.
