GUWAHATI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) confiscated 9 kilograms of suspected ganja on January 27, from two passengers traveling aboard the New Delhi Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423 DN). The operation occurred at Guwahati Railway Station’s Platform No. 1 during a routine inspection at approximately 7:40 am.
The two passengers were caught with 13 packets of contraband and were held for questioning. The GRP has started an investigation to find out where the drugs came from and where they were going.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, two women drug peddlers had been arrested by a team of the Special Task Force (STF) Assam on January 12, after raids had been conducted based on credible intelligence. The operation had taken place at two separate places at 14th Mile, which fell under the jurisdiction of Sonapur Police Station.
During the operation, the STF Assam team had recovered 7.292 kgs of what was suspected to be ganja, 355 bottles of IMFL of different brands that had been made to be sold in Meghalaya only, 30 pre-rolled cones of congo, and 44 Gogo ultra-thin papers which were used in the consumption of ganja.
In another similar incident, Basistha police under East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) had arrested Ananta Das (59) of Koinadhora. He had been caught red-handed while trying to smuggle and sell cannabis. The police had recovered 3.490 kg of ganja, two mobile phones, and cash of Rs. 20,450. Legal action had been initiated against the accused.
